The XVIII edition of Expomin, the most important mining fair in Latin America

Santiago de Chile, April 22, 2025 – The XVIII edition of Expomin, the most important mining fair in Latin America, opened today in Espacio Riesco with a renewed focus on sustainability and self-sustaining energy. This event, which will last until April 26, brings together more than 1,300 exhibiting companies from 35 countries, consolidating itself as the epicenter of mining innovation in the region.

A Commitment to Sustainability

The opening ceremony was attended by prominent authorities, including the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, and the Minister of the Environment, Maisa Rojas. Both emphasized Chile’s commitment to responsible and sustainable mining, aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Expomin 2025 marks a milestone in the mining industry, demonstrating that it is possible to move towards cleaner and more efficient mining, without compromising economic development,” said Minister Williams.

Self-Sustaining Energy in the Heart of the Fair

One of the highlights of this edition is the implementation of self-sustaining energy solutions in the fairgrounds. Espacio Riesco has been equipped with photovoltaic solar panels and energy efficiency systems that significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the event. In addition, water consumption has been optimized and recycling practices have been implemented in all areas of the enclosure.

“We are demonstrating that the mining of the future is green, efficient and environmentally friendly,” said Francisco Sotomayor, executive director of GL events Chile, organizer of Expomin.

Innovation and Technology at the Service of Mining

Expomin 2025 stands out for its emphasis on technological innovation applied to sustainable mining. Leading companies in the sector present advanced solutions in automation, artificial intelligence, precision mining and renewable energies. An example of this is the participation of Wärtsilä Energy, which exhibits its high efficiency engines that complement renewable energy sources, ensuring a stable and reliable supply even in remote environments.

Sustainable Mobility and Community Connection

The fair has also implemented a sustainable mobility plan, promoting the use of public and shared transport for attendees. In addition, for the first time in its history, Expomin will open its doors to the general public on Saturday, April 26 on “Tizen’s Day”, a special day dedicated to bringing mining closer to Chilean families. During this day, educational activities, guided tours and interactive experiences for children and adults will be offered.

Looking to the Future

With a comprehensive approach that covers environmental sustainability, technological innovation and social inclusion, Expomin 2025 is positioned as a benchmark in the transformation of the mining industry towards more sustainable and self-sustaining models. This event reaffirms Chile’s leadership in the mining of the future and its commitment to development that respects the environment and benefits all communities.
